Which is better for a square lithium battery at low temperature?

There are two main forms of square low-temperature lithium batteries, one is a hard shell aluminum shell square lithium battery, and the other is an aluminum-plastic film soft pack square lithium battery. What is the difference between these two types of square low-temperature lithium batteries, and which type of low-temperature battery is better? Let's take a look.

1. Aluminum shell square lithium battery
(1) Aluminum shell square lithium batteries adopt a winding production process, so at the same capacity, their volume and weight are higher than those of soft shell square lithium batteries.
(2) The electrolyte used in aluminum shell square lithium batteries is liquid, which is prone to freezing in low-temperature environments, greatly increasing internal resistance, affecting the battery's discharge capacity, and even producing lithium deposition, allowing the battery to operate in low-temperature environments.
(3) The aluminum shell is at risk of being corroded by electrolyte, leading to liquid leakage and scrapping.
(4) However, aluminum shell square lithium batteries have relatively good advantages in increasing capacity and parallel connection.
(5) Liquid electrolytes are prone to producing gas after electrolysis reactions, which can cause battery expansion and burst. Therefore, aluminum shell batteries are equipped with safety valves to prevent explosion accidents.

(6) Aluminum shell lithium batteries have poor deformation ability and are prone to damage.

2. Aluminum plastic film soft pack square lithium battery
There are several electrolytes for aluminum-plastic film soft pack square lithium batteries, one is liquid electrolyte, one is colloidal electrolyte, and the other is solid electrolyte. Different electrolytes have different low-temperature resistance for low-temperature square lithium batteries.
According to the current application practice of these three electrolytes, the low-temperature performance of square lithium batteries with solid electrolytes is good because solid electrolytes do not freeze substances due to temperature, which affects normal discharge. Due to the chemical defects of solid electrolytes themselves, in terms of electronic conductivity, they are the lowest among the three electrolytes. Solid state lithium batteries have high capacity efficiency in ultra-low temperature environments, but cannot achieve rate discharge- Discharge above 30 ℃ can achieve low-speed discharge.

Colloidal low-temperature lithium batteries have ideal discharge capacity in medium to low temperature environments, but they are slightly worse than solid-state low-temperature lithium batteries and worse in liquid state.
